Fall Sermon Series

Jesus often used short stories to teach deep spiritual truth. These stories were not usually far-fetched tales of unlikely or unusual events. Jesus used believable stories of everyday events to teach profound spiritual truth. During November and one Sunday in October, we will look closely at some of these stories to better understand critical spiritual principles. Many of these stories were immediately understandable to the followers of Jesus 2,000 years ago. We will look at how Jesus' early followers understood these stories to better understand their meaning and how we can apply their purpose to our lives today.

The five parables we will consider in this series deal with followers of Jesus having a greater understanding of important spiritual things. A story of a manager hiring day laborers helps us to understand God's grace. The story about a wedding helps bring clarity about what it means to accept the Lord's invitation. Jesus tells the story of a neighbor needing bread in the middle of the night to help us understand prayer. How a man responds to finding a great treasure helps us understand the value of God's kingdom, and lastly, the story of a man helping out the victim of a violent crime will enable us to understand love. Whether you hear these stories for the first time or the hundredth time, this teaching series will bring new insights, hope, challenges, and spiritual growth.
